02b / Overview

About the Bentley Continental GT Speed PHEV

The Bentley Continental GT Speed PHEV is one of those cars best understood by what its maker chose to prioritise. New PHEV Continental GT — 771 hp combined, hand-built interior.

Under the bonnet sits a 4.0L Twin-Turbo V8 PHEV, sending 771 hp to a AWD driveline. That's enough for 3.1 seconds to 60 mph and a 208 mph maximum — figures that say as much about the gearing and aerodynamics as they do about the engine. At roughly 5,560 lb it carries about 7.2 lb per horsepower, which is the number that actually predicts how it feels on a road rather than on a spec sheet.

Mechanically it's a conventional, well-understood package rather than an experiment, which is a large part of why it works as an everyday car.

Sports cars live or die on feel. Grip, steering weight, gearshift quality and how progressively the chassis lets go matter far more here than a headline power figure. At around $305,000, the Continental GT Speed PHEV is priced as a car people genuinely use, and our value score of 8.2/10 reflects what you get for that against its direct rivals rather than against the market as a whole.

Cars like this are worth understanding in detail, because the interesting decisions are never the ones printed on the window sticker.

03 / How to use

Owner's walkthrough

Practical guide for everything a new owner asks on day one — starting the car, finding the gear selector, drive modes, infotainment, driver aids, and easy-to-miss features.

01

How to start it

Press the brake, then press START/STOP on the console (right of the gear lever). On RS / R / S models, a red ignition button is recessed into the steering wheel as a shortcut.

02

Where the gear selector is (and how to use it)

Console-mounted shifter — pull back through N to D, push forward through N to R, press the P button on the top to park. PHEV Bentleys add a steering-wheel paddle override.

03

Drive modes

Drive modes are accessed via the Drive Dynamics control on the console. Available modes typically include Bentley, Sport, Comfort, Custom. Each mode reshuffles throttle mapping, steering weight, adaptive dampers (if equipped), exhaust valves, and stability-control thresholds. On performance trims, an 'Individual' or 'Custom' slot lets you save your favorite combination so you can recall it with one click instead of nesting through menus.

04

Cluster & head-up display

The driver display is a 12.3-inch driver display. Use the steering-wheel left thumb-pad to cycle layouts (Classic, Sport, Navigation, Minimal). When in Sport / Track mode the cluster automatically swaps to a wide tach with gear indicator and tire-temperature readout. The head-up display brightness, height, and content are configured from Settings → Displays → HUD.

05

Infotainment & voice control

Infotainment runs on Rotating Display (3-sided) with Bentley HMI. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard; pair from Settings → Connections the first time, then it auto-connects whenever your phone is in range. "Hey Bentley" wakes the in-car assistant for nav, climate, calls, and messaging without touching the screen. The main display also hosts vehicle-specific apps: tire pressures, performance data recorder (where fitted), drive-mode customizer, and the camera views.

06

Driver assistance

Standard driver aids include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Toggle each system individually from the driver-assist menu (steering-wheel left-pad → Assistance). Highway-driving assist (hands-off in marked lanes on supported roads), automatic lane-change on indicator tap, traffic-jam assist for stop-and-go, and a 360° surround camera with transparent-hood mode are all available and worth enabling for the first time before driving in heavy traffic.

07

Charging & fueling

Plug-in hybrid: charge nightly from a standard 240V Level-2 outlet (about 2–3 hours for full battery). The car will default to electric-only until the pack is depleted, then operate as a hybrid. Use 'Hold' mode on the energy screen to save battery for city driving later, or 'Charge' mode to use the engine to top up the pack on the highway.

08

Keys & phone-as-key

Beyond the physical key, this car supports Bentley Connected Car key. Set up phone-as-key from the My Bentley app: it provisions a secure credential to your phone's wallet so a tap on the door handle unlocks the car and placing the phone on the wireless charging pad authorizes ignition. You can also share temporary keys to family members (with optional speed and area limits on performance trims) directly from the app.

09

First-week tips & easy-to-miss features

A few things every new owner tells us they wish they'd known on day one:

  • Download the brand app (My Bentley) and pair it with your VIN before your first long trip — remote climate, charging/fuel-level checks, and remote lock-status save you walking back to the garage in winter.
